What is the structure for this project?
Our project will use the GREET model developed by Argonne National Laboratory to compare the
life cycle energy, greenhouse gas, and air pollutant emissions associated with conventional internal combustion
engine automobiles (conventional vehicles, CVs) and electric vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
The GREET model (https://greet.es.anl.gov/) will be used to quantify the material acquisition, manufacturing and assembly, use and end of life of the automobiles. We will apply material balance principles to understand the environmental impacts (resource consumption, emissions of greenhouse gases and criteria air pollutants to the atmosphere) of existing and emerging automobiles.
