Project Overview

From the creation of the automobile to what it has evolved into today, the concentration of greenhouse gasses have been on the rise since the industrial revolution.  Largely contributing to the increased concentration within the atmosphere are anthropogenic CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.  Our research will be based on the consumption within the United States.  Many greenhouse gasses from automobiles will be investigated and addressed allowing our group to compare the affects of combustion engines, hybrid and electric.  We will focus on three points per vehicle type:
  1. Non-renewable resource consumption to build and fuel vehicles
  2. Effects of harmful pollution on the ecosystem from mining to production
  3. End of life/Destruction of vehicles
Through our 10 week research, investigation, and understanding we will be able to address the effects of greenhouse gasses throughout the life cycle of the automobile.  In the end, the information gathered during the project will assist in creating a concise memo directed towards the EPA, United States Senate, State Representative or any governmental agency.
